Why we called it KŌNA

The greenhouse room at KŌNA

Naming a café is harder than it looks. You want a word that sounds good out loud, looks good on a wall, and means something true. We found ours in two places at once.

In Hindi, कोना (kona) means a corner — the cozy nook by the window, the seat you always take, the little pocket of the world that feels like yours. That feeling was the whole point. We weren't trying to build the biggest place in town; we wanted to build the one you'd call your corner.

Then there's the other Kona — the district in Hawaii that gives the world one of its most celebrated coffees. A name that quietly says: we take the coffee seriously here. Two meanings, one word, and a macron over the O to tie a little knot in it: KŌNA.

Say it slow. It sounds like somewhere you'd want to sit a while. That's exactly the idea.
